Advanced biofuels technology platform programme

Advanced biofuels are here intended as those biobased (liquid or gaseous) products produced from lignocellulosic biomass residues and further organic biomass wastes. The name "second generation" is used to divide these new, more sustainable products from the conventional biofuels produced in the last decade from food crops like sunflowers, rape seed, soybean, sugar cane, etc..or from biomasses cultivated in dedicated intensive plantations.  


The activities on this topic will be divided on the basis of end products aggregation status and production processes:

GASEOUS BIOFUELS


  • Biomethane production from thermochemical conversion and syngas upgrading 
  • Biomethane production from anaerobic digestion and biogas upgrading
  • Studies on application of biomethane in light vehicles I.C. engines
  • New technologies for large scale anaerobic digestion of lignocellulosic biomasses


LIQUID BIOFUELS


Thermochemical conversion


  • Biodiesel production from thermochemical conversion of solid biomasses and F.T. synthesis
  • Bioethanol production from synthesis of bio-syngas from biomass gasification
